The Original Jordan Experience in Amsterdam
Mokum Events' Original Jordan Experience tour in Amsterdam shows that the neighbourhood is still as fascinating today as it was in the old days.
Many famous Dutch people and successful businessmen nowadays live in the Jordaan.
Take a tour to one of Amsterdams most special districts and experience the original Jordaan feeling!
You may know the songs from the famous Johnny Jordaan, in which he tells us how life was in 'his neighbourhood' in the old days. Nowadays it is still wonderful to walk, cycle, step or ride on a scooter through this beautiful (former) working-class area.
Your guide will lead you along beautiful courtyards and will show you the most beautiful views. He will tell you stories about the historical and restored brick buildings.
Stories about former and current residents of the Jordaan, about the musical history of popular performers like Johnny Jordaan and Tante (Aunt) Leen; we will walk to their own square!
We will also visit the Theo Thijssen museum and the Pianola museum.
Theo Thijssen museum:
The Theo Thijssen museum is named after the Amsterdam writer. Theo Thijsen was a teacher, union member and social-democratic politician. In addition to exclusive information about Theo Thijssen himself, you also get an indepth impression of daily life in the Jordaan at the end of the past century.
You will learn a lot about education in TheoThijssen's time, socialism and trade unions in the first half of the 20th century.
Pianola Museum:
The Pianola Museum, one of the smallest museums in Amsterdam, has a unique collection of over 50 (working!) mechanical playing (grand) pianos. The museum has about 20.000 music rolls, which can all be played on different instruments. You will be amazed how beautiful these old instruments sound!
Halfway through the afternoon we will take a break and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and eat a lovely applepie (baked in grandmother's kitchen). Location: a typical Jordaan pub at the Noordermarkt (market).
