Walk along with the V.O.C. in Amsterdam

Experience the wonderful history of Amsterdam in the maritime museum. Next, take a wonderful Walk along with the V.O.C. with a Mokum Events' tourguide.

Investigate the history of the long gone VOC, the united east-indies company, the engine of Dutch 17th century wealth.

12.00 pm - 01.00 pm Tour Scheepvaarthuis

Mokum Events welcomes you to the 'Scheepvaarthuis'. This monument, built by the architects Van der Mey, De Klerk and Kramer in the age of New Art (Art Nouveau) and Jugendstil (between 1912-1916), served as the main office for 6 of the most important Amsterdam shipping companies of that time.

After a reception with coffee and tea, you will be taken on a tour of this beautiful building. It is considered to be the first completed construction in the 'Amsterdam School` style.

You will discover that, apart from the beautiful exterior which has been designed with lots of details, the interior has received the same design energy and has been designed with pretty much the same eye for detail. It's finished using the most astonishing natural materials.

01.00 pm - 02.15 pm High Tea

After the guided tour, you will be invited for an eleborate English High Tea.

02.30 pm - 03.30 pm VOC Walk

After the High Tea, we will walk through an area which was mainly earmarked for the VOC. It's common knowledge that this famous trading company, from the 17th Century onwards, made it possible for the citizens in Holland to drink tea and coffee. By the way, the same goes for the consumption of spices such as pepper, nutmeg, mace and cloves.

During our walk, the Mokum Events guide will show you the various buildings, fronts and shipyards, which were directly connected to the VOC. The guide will present you with all kinds of explanations, interesting anecdotes and stories from this memorable time. You will be astonished how many remnants remain from the VOC era in Amsterdam.

Included in our tour is the 'Zeedijk', along the 'Geldersekade' and through the 'Lastagebuurt', where we will also visit a Chinese temple.

03.30 pm - 04.30 pm Tea Sampling

As mentioned before, it is thanks to the VOC that Holland as a nation started drinking tea. Next, you will now join a tea sampling. This does not mean tasting modern teas with flavours like raspberry, cherry or apple/pear. No, we will let you taste the real original tea flavours, for instance like some of the first flushes! We won't rush, we will first drink an 'ordinary' cup of tea and enjoy a lovely cake.

Including:
  • Reception with coffee / tea
  • Guided tour Scheepvaarthuis
  • High Tea
  • VOC Walk
  • Tea sampling with cake

Our guides speak several languages, so almost all trips, excursions, guided tours and arrangements can also be followed in various languages.

Yes, you can. However, since we commit ourselves for a minimum number of participants, we request you to pay this minimum rate. Please, contact us in advance!

Many trips start in the vicinity of the Amsterdam Central Railway Station (CS), but this depends completely on the chosen arrangement. Our employees will advise you in advance about the right point of departure.
