Learn Dutch the Mokums way and you will feel like a real Mokumer! This workshop lets you enjoy the pronunciation, sounds and naturally the words and expressions that you really ought to know if you want to speak the language!

"Mokums" is vernacular Amsterdam that in part is based on old Jewish (Yiddish) dialects and Bargoens (the language of the underworld). We believe that in order to really get to know a city or an area and her inhabitants you ought to learn their language. This also applies to holidays, but naturally, this also starts with your discovery tour of your own country!

We of Mokum have found, among all the Amsterdam races that still live here, someone in a backstreet on the sixth floor at the back of the Jordaan, a person who can speak virtually only Mokums vernacular. Meet Tante Sjaan in Mokums "as de neite" (through and through) and super enthusiast! She will tell you all there is to know.

Whilst enjoying a "pikketanissie" (a shot of Dutch Gin) you can practice on one another all that you have learned, and believe me, that is not so easy! You may laugh at one another! Even so, were it not "allowed", you will be unable to duck it! Sing together an undistorted tearjerker and play a role in a short street scene, and all this in the language of the Capital.
