The Jordaan is still an area of Amsterdam that appeals to everyone's imagination because of its unusual street pattern and of course, the glorious 'Westertoren'. Experience the true heart of Amsterdam, it's beating 200 pubs every mile!!

It was developed as a working-class area in the1612 and it became the most densely populated district of Amsterdam in the beginning of the 20th century. Life took place mainly on the pavement and in the pubs. As a result of the continiousl bad living conditions, the Jordan area naturally developed into a district with it's own culture and tradition, which later translated itself into Jordaan folk music.

The Jordaan became famous both in- and outside of the Netherlands in the fifties with the hits famous people like Johnny Jordaan and Tante (Aunt) Leen. Your guide will sing a number of pure Jordaan, Amsterdam and Dutch hits in the pub. This will certainly reveal some of the spirit of romance and the cosy life attributed to the Jordaan. Our walk will also take us along the nicest, still numerous courtyards, the most picturesque canals and the cosiest pubs. Johnny's song can be heard in the pubs, including his hit: O Saperdioosiaa?
