Architecture in the Eastern Harbour Area of Amsterdam
Mokum Events is proud of her beautiful city and wants to show its beauty, the romantic canals, the narrow alleys and the elegant squares. However, if you thought you knew everything about the Jordaan, the Amstel and the Palace on the Dam, then think again because Mokum will surprise you! This surprise is called The Eastern Harbour Area.
You may know this area from the past, dark grisly docks where it always seemed to drizzle and where things happened regularly which couldn't bear to see the light of day. Perhaps it was a bit like that in the past?
Recently, this area has been transformed into a modern and popular area with remarkable and varied architecture. You really won't believe your eyes! Famous architects from Holland and from abroad have turned this once desolate area into an architectural tour de force. Various styles are mixed; an important part of the existing historical architecture has been preserved in a remarkable way.
Examine the varied house- structures, the KNSM-island, the new canals and bridges of the Java eiland (island), the free parcels on Borneo and giant blocks like The Whale on Sporenbrug and get amazed!
